The SV Germania Obrigheim from the Baden Obrigheim is a sports club with various departments. The weightlifting division , which has existed since 1897, is known nationwide.

The SV Germania Obrigheim comprises the departments soccer, weightlifting, handball, table tennis, gymnastics and bowling.

Weightlifting

In Germany, Obrigheim is known as the “Betzenberg of weightlifting”, as an average of over 1000 spectators always follow the competitions there.

The weightlifters became German team champions for the first time in 2003. In 2005 the vice-championship title could be won in its own hall, in 2007 and 2010 further vice-championship titles followed.

In the 2007/08 Bundesliga season, the first team of SV Germania Obrigheim was able to consist of Oliver Caruso , Carsten Diemer, Ingo Fein, Marco Frick, Daniel Pischzan , Nico Müller, Thorsten Hauß, Almir Velagic , Andre Hemmann, Jörg Mazur, Karsten Kluge and Georgi Markow won the championship in the Bundesliga middle season after 7 wins and 1 defeat and thus hosted the Bundesliga final against Chemnitz AC and SSV Samswegen on April 5, 2008. There they won the second championship title in an exciting final become.

In the 2009/10 season there were three current national lifters in the senior division of the Bundesliga team (Almir Velagic, Rene Horn, Jakob Neufeld) and the youth national team lifters Nico Müller. The team was completed by Carsten Diemer and Marco Frick. World-class lifters Vencelas Dabaya and Jose Juan Navarro were registered for the foreigners' place. The season was finished again as runner-up.

The 2011/2012 season again brought the runner-up in the final in Chemnitz.

On April 20, 2013, the third title was won with 996 points in the Obrigheimer Neckarhalle. The final team consisted of Nico Müller, Alexander Oberkirsch, Jakob Neufeld, Rene Horn, Ivan Markov and Matthäus Hofmann.

The association has been awarded the “Green Ribbon” several times for exemplary youth work. In 2009, SV Obrigheim was the only weightlifting club to date to receive the "Green Belt" for the third time.
