history

General

The club was founded in 1908 by a few soccer players as a gymnastics and game club. The naming Vesalia is based on the old Roman name of Oberwesel. The gymnastics department was added in 1912. A year later, a boxing and wrestling department was formed, of which no records exist anymore. At the end of the First World War , an athletics department was also founded. In 1924 the gymnastics department became independent again as a newly founded gymnastics company. The athletics department also partially joined the newly founded DJK. In the 1950s, the gymnastics society then rejoined the sports club. In 1951 a tennis and winter sports department was added. An athletics department was slowly formed again, but this only existed until the 1960s. Due to great demand, a karate department was established in 1973 .

Founded until World War II

Due to the outbreak of the First World War another year later, the game was interrupted for the first time. As early as 1916 it was possible to play against regional teams in small teams again. In 1926 the first soccer team was promoted to the 1st district class for the first time, which they also belonged to until the mid-1930s. After the forced dissolution of the DJK Rheinwacht by the National Socialists , the athletes rejoined the sports club. After the outbreak of the Second World War , gaming operations were quickly stopped completely.

post war period

After the end of the war, a football team was quickly formed again, which even managed to move up to the then second-class Rheinhessen / Nahe regional league for the 1949/50 season . There you could only stay there for one season, however, and in the end, at 9:47, they were 15th and last in the table, directly relegated. From then on, it went down to the A-Class.

In 1954, a championship succeeded once again, with which the team managed to return to the district league. This upswing did not last long, however, which meant that the company had to relegate to the B-Class for the first time in 1961. Then they formed a game community together with the neighboring club Rheingold Dellhofen . This then managed to return to the A-class in 1965, but was already relegated a year later, but was then able to gain immediate promotion, the division then only belonged until 1968.

1970s to 1990s

In 1973 they merged again as SG with TSV Blau-Weiß Bacharach , with which they should immediately be promoted to the district B. You could keep the class so far, but a promotion from the B class should not succeed. At the end of a relegation round, the footballers finally went down to the C-class in 1995. In the same year, however, a game community was formed with the SSV Urbar . Which meant that you could stay in the B-Class. In 1999 the time of this SG should end.

Current time

In 2001, after relegation, the championship in the C-class finally succeeded in the second attempt. In 2004, the return to the A-Class should also be possible. You can stay here for many years. At the end of the 2016/17 season, the championship should finally be retracted with 69 points, which allowed the team to move up to the district league. Since then, the team has always played at the top, but it hasn't been enough for promotion to this day. For the 2019/20 season, the team joins the SpVgg Viertäler in 1990 as SG Viertäler Oberwesel in the district league.

Handball

In 1975 a handball department was founded, which started in 1977 in the 3rd district class. In 1980, the football SG dissolved and the sports club had to relegate to the district C league. As early as 1981, however, the direct ascent should succeed. In 1987 the handball players merged with TSV Blau-Weiß Bacharach, but the team was not allowed to play in Rheinhessen, which meant that the team had to compete in D-West. The connection did not last long, however, and from 1993 they appeared as TuS Büdesheim . The handball players managed to become unbeaten champions in the C-class in 1994 and thus to rise to the B-class. Two more years later, the company was promoted to the A-Class.

The handball players then merged with RW Oberheimbach in 1998 to form the HSG Mittelrhein . Thus in 1999 the championship in the A-class and the relegation that followed. In 2000 you played in the district league, where you always play up front, but then missed third place in the end, which would have been enough for promotion. Due to the rise of TV Nieder Olm in the regional league , however, a place became available, so that the team was still able to enjoy promotion to the association league. After a 9th place in the following season, they always fought against relegation in the following seasons. In 2004, he was relegated to the district league, where the league was successful, but the move to the A-class was voluntary. Before the start of the 2005/06 season, the team was then completely withdrawn due to a lack of players. From then on, the place of the second team in the D-class was accepted, but this should also rise relatively quickly to at least the B-class. Nowadays, a women's team plays in the A-class of the Rheinhessen handball association.
