The Alarcón Dam ( Presa de Alarcón in Spanish ) is a dam with hydroelectric power plant in the municipality of Alarcón , Cuenca Province , Spain . It dams the Júcar into a reservoir. The dam is used to generate electricity as well as irrigation and drinking water supply. Construction began in 1941 (or 1942); it was completed in 1952 (or 1955). The dam is state-owned and operated by the Unión Sindical de Usuarios del Júcar . The power plant is operated by Iberdrola .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure is a concrete gravity dam with a height of 67 (or 70 or 71.20) m above the foundation base . The top of the wall lies at a height of 814 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 317 m. At the base, the width of the dam is 65 m. The volume of the dam is 229,630 m³.

The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 70 (or 79) m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 1317 (or 1750) m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 1700 m³ / s; the design flood, as it occurs once every 10,000 years, is given as 2916 m³ / s.

Reservoir

With the normal storage target of 806 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 68.40 km² and holds 1.118 billion m³ of water; 1.118 billion m³ of this can be used.

power plant

The installed capacity of the power plant is 16 MW . The average annual production is 44.17 million kWh . The two Francis turbines each have a maximum output of 7,945 MW. The fall height is 52 m. The maximum flow rate is 17.5 m³ / s per turbine.
