Saʿd al-Shadhili
Saʿd asch-Schadhili (also Saad el-Schazly and Saad El Shazly , Arabic سعد الشاذلي, DMG Saʿd aš-Šāḏilī ; * April 1, 1922 in Basyun ; † February 10, 2011 ) was a diplomat and chief of staff in the Egyptian armed forces during the Yom Kippur War .
Under his leadership, the Egyptian troops managed to overcome the Bar Lew Line , a chain of bunkers and earthworks built by Israel that ran along the eastern coast of the Suez Canal . After his public criticism of the Camp David I Agreement, he was dismissed from his post as ambassador to Portugal and sent into exile in Algeria .
