Saarbrücken marathon
The Saarbrücken Marathon was a marathon run in Saarbrücken . It was held for the first time in 2006 and took place regularly in May until 2012. In addition to the marathon, a half marathon was also offered, which SV Saar 05 continues to this day as the “GO! Half Marathon Saarbrücken”.
The route was a four-lap course (two laps for half marathon runners) with start and finish on the banks of the Saar below the Saarland State Theater . First it went past the Congress Hall in the Bürgerpark and then over the Westspangenbrücke to the left bank of the Saar . There it went upstream to the Daarler Bridge, over which one returned to the right bank of the Saar. Then the route ran downstream and shortly before the destination turned right onto a loop through the city center with the St. Johanner Markt.
In 2007, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Saarland, an additional 50 km ultra marathon was carried out. There has been no more marathon competition since 2013, the longest distance is the half marathon .
