Sabal causiarum, also called Puerto Rico palmetto , is a species of the Sabal genuswithin the palm family (Arecaceae). Their natural range is on the Caribbean islands of Hispaniola and Puerto Rico , as well as on the British Virgin Islands .

Vegetative characteristics
Sabal causiarum grows as a palm and reaches heights of 10 meters and trunk diameters of 35 to 70 centimeters. Sabal causiarum is a fan palm with up to 30 fronds per plant.
Generative characteristics
The inflorescence is branched, curved or drooping and longer than the fronds.
The fruit, black when ripe, is spherical with a diameter of 0.7 to 1.1 centimeters. The shape and size of the fruit are the most important characteristics in which Sabal causiarum differs from Sabal domingensis .
Occurrence
The natural range is on the Caribbean islands in the states of Puerto Rico , Haiti , the Dominican Republic and the British Virgin Islands .
use
Sabal causiarum is hardly used as an ornamental plant. The fronds of Sabal causiarum are used to make hats, mats and baskets.
