Sabine Funke (* 1955 in Bochum ) is a German painter. She has lived in Karlsruhe as a freelance artist since 1987 .

life and work

Funke studied art history at the Ruhr University in Bochum, at the Folkwang University free graphics as well as painting and art theory at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main. She completed her studies as a master class student with Raimer Jochims .

Her work has been shown in Germany in several group and solo exhibitions, including in the Kunsthalle Bielefeld , the Kunsthalle Mannheim , the orangery of the Kunsthalle Karlsruhe , the Josef Albers Museum in Bottrop, the Städtische Galerie Karlsruhe and the Städtische Galerie in Offenburg.

The painter deals with the interaction of colors and stands in the tradition of color field painting . The artist paints with heavily diluted acrylic paints on wooden panels (panel paintings) and since 2018 on canvas. Since 1999 she has also been creating large-format color field compositions directly on the wall. In the case of wall painting, the spatial effect of the colors is in the foreground, with the color fields taking up a direct reference to the architecture and dematerializing the space.
