Sabine Wolfram

Sabine Wolfram (born March 14, 1960 ) is a German prehistorian. Since 2012 she has been director of the State Museum for Archeology in Chemnitz .

Life

Sabine Wolfram studied prehistory and early history, botany and Scandinavian studies in Göttingen and Sheffield. The publication of her master’s thesis On Theory Discussion in Prehistoric Archeology in Great Britain contributed to the reception of the Anglo-Saxon theoretical discussion in the German-speaking area. In 1990 she initiated the founding of Theory AG and launched it first as a member of the founding team, then as the elected spokesperson (1992–1994 with Jörn Jacobs). She received her doctorate from Jens Lüning (Frankfurt a. M.) with the thesis The decorated ceramics of the Hanau – Klein-Auheim flat ceramic settlement: taphonomy, chronology, settlement development . From 1986 to 2001 Wolfram worked for the museums of the city of Hanau in Hesse. There she set up the permanent archaeological exhibition in the Museum Schloss Steinheim and developed the museum educational concept. As a freelance curator for the State Museum for Nature and Man in Oldenburg, she organized a special exhibition entitled “Garbage - Facets from the Stone Age to the Yellow Sack”, which was shown at two other locations. From April 2006 she worked as a research assistant at the Chair for Prehistory and Protohistory at the University of Leipzig . Since 2009 she has been working on a research project of the German Research Foundation on the ribbon ceramic settlement area of Eythra , Leipzig district. Sabine Wolfram has been director of the State Museum of Archeology in Chemnitz since April 1, 2012, which opened on May 15, 2014.
