Sabine Zimmermann b. Ebert (born December 30, 1960 in Pasewalk ) is a German politician ( SPD , Die Linke ).

Life and work

After attending the polytechnic high school , Sabine Zimmermann completed an apprenticeship as a skilled worker for systems engineering with a high school diploma from 1977 to 1980. Then she attended a technical college for building materials technology, which she finished in 1984 as a building materials technologist. She then worked at VEB Ziegelwerke Karl-Marx-Stadt until 1990 and then in the district office Neustadt an der Waldnaab in the waste management department.

In 1992 she moved to the German Trade Union Confederation as a trade union secretary . Since 2001 she has been chairwoman of the DGB region Vogtland - Zwickau .

1995–2005 she was a member of the SPD, in 2007 she joined the party Die Linke.

Sabine Zimmermann is married and has two children.

From July 16 until the end of the legislative period in October 2004, Sabine Zimmermann was a member of the Saxon state parliament for the SPD Saxony after Karl-Heinz Kunckel resigned from his seat. She has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2005, when she entered the Bundestag via the Open State List of Saxony of the Linkspartei.PDS . Your constituency is Zwickau .

In September 2012 she was elected chairman of the Committee for Labor and Social Affairs of the German Bundestag after Katja Kipping resigned from this office due to her election as party chairman . In January 2018 she took over the chairmanship of the Committee on Family, Seniors, Women and Youth .

Zimmermann has been a member of the Franco-German Parliamentary Assembly since 2019 .

Candidate for the chairmanship of Die Linke

In 2012, she announced her candidacy for party leadership. She withdrew it on election day. Katja Kipping became the new party leader after she had prevailed against Dora Heyenn .
