Saccoloma is a genus from the genus of the true ferns (Polypodiopsida). It is the only genus in the Saccolomataceae family.
features
The rhizomes are short creeping to erect, sometimes stem-like, and have a dictyostele . The leaf stalks have an omega-shaped vascular bundle . The leaf blades are pinnate to pinnate. The limb hairs as in the closely related Dennstaedtiaceae are missing. The nerves end freely.
The Sori are at the end of the nerves. The Indusia are bag-shaped or cup-shaped. The spores are spherical-tetrahedral, the surface has parallel, branched ribs.
The basic chromosome number is x = approx. 63.
distribution
The genus is spread pantropically and grows terrestrially.
Systematics
The genus includes around 12 species and is probably monophyletic .
