history

Sachsenhausen was first mentioned in 1143 as Sachsenhusen . The name of the place indicates a resettlement campaign possibly as a result of the Saxon Wars of Charlemagne .

In 1434, Sachsenhausen came under the rule of Heidenheim through various rulers that changed frequently in the late Middle Ages . This finally came to Württemberg in 1504 . The Reformation was introduced in Sachsenhausen in 1536 as a result of belonging to Württemberg . During the Thirty Years' War, after the Battle of Nördlingen, which the Swedes lost in 1634, the victorious imperial troops advanced and devastated the settlements and agricultural areas belonging to it in large parts of Württemberg. In this context, the village of Sachsenhausen burned down in 1634. About the Office Württemberg Heidenheim the place remained even after the implementation of the new administrative divisions in the Kingdom of Württemberg in the upper office Heidenheim . The administrative reform of April 25, 1938 during the Nazi era in Württemberg led to membership in the newly formed Heidenheim district . After the Second World War, the place fell into the American zone of occupation and thus belonged to the state of Württemberg-Baden , which was incorporated into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952.

The formerly independent municipality of Sachsenhausen came to the city of Giengen an der Brenz on January 1, 1972 as part of the regional reform .
