Alexander Baumgartner

Alexander Baumgartner (born June 27, 1841 in St. Gallen ; † September 5, 1910 in Luxembourg ) was a Swiss Jesuit and literary scholar .

Life

Baumgartner was the son of the politician Gallus Jakob Baumgartner . Baumgartner completed the majority of his school days in his hometown, then moved - due to his father's professional career - to Chur , Einsiedeln and Feldkirch .

At the age of 19 Baumgartner entered the Jesuit order . There he attended the Jesuit colleges in Münster , Maria Laach and Ditton Hall . After successfully completing his degree, he was appointed lecturer in Feldkirch in 1867 and six years later in the same position in Stonyhurst , England.

From 1867 Baumgartner was an important contributor to the magazine Voices from Maria Laach . He also wrote for the magazine The Catholic Missions .

From 1899 Baumgartner lived and worked in Luxembourg and died there at the age of 69 on September 5, 1910.
