The Sachsenröder GmbH is an innovation - and technology companies from the Bergisch city Wuppertal . The company manufactures materials in a natural and sustainable way and has grown to become the global market leader with its two products, Savutec and Gesadur . For example, the vulcanized fiber produced forms the basis for grinding wheels that are used by numerous companies in the automotive industry.

Around 80 people are employed on the company premises in Wuppertal- Barmen .

history

The company was founded on June 19, 1881 by Gustav-Heinrich Sachsenröder through a service contract with the parchment master Theodor Biesenkamp. On January 1, 1882, the parchment paper factory Sachsenröder opened at Berliner Straße 114 in Barmen - Rittershausen (today both in Wuppertal) . The entry in the company register of the Royal District Court in Barmen was completed on March 14, 1882, from which time parchment paper was manufactured for packaging and decoration. In the following ten years, company founder Gustav-Heinrich Sachsenröder developed hydrated cellulose and other special products such as multi-layered parchment. Around 1900 the company achieved its breakthrough with the world's first production of endless vulcanized fiber .

During the Second World War , the Wuppertal operations were completely destroyed, but could be rebuilt from 1945 onwards. By 1949, the third Sachsenröder generation joined the company, represented by the founder's sons Günter and Gustav-Adolf Sachsenröder. During the same period, Gustav Sachsenröder sen. the foundation stone for the establishment of a materials department that produces the high-quality Duroplast Gesadur , which is still successfully sold worldwide today. From 1950 the vulcanized fiber department was also expanded and, among other things, equipped for use as a carrier material for surface decorations.

From 1970 the company achieved international recognition with the creation of the abrasive vulcanized fiber. This process was made possible by the use of sulfuric acid . In 1975, the company became a GmbH & Co.KG reshaped. In 1997 and 1998 there was an increase in the quality of the well-known vulcanized fiber products. In 1999, company director Dirk Sachsenröder bought 50% of the shares and was now the majority shareholder with 75%. At the end of the year he was appointed sole managing director, which means that the family company is now in its fourth generation. At the turn of the millennium, the possibilities for controlling were improved by the introduction of modern IT programs.

In 2005 the company celebrated its 125th anniversary. In 2009 Dirk Sachsenröder founded the innovation laboratory together with the Bergische Universität Wuppertal .

Today the company has sales partners in Australia , Brazil , China , Denmark , Finland , France , Indonesia , Italy , Japan , Canada , Mexico , Malaysia , Sweden , Singapore , Spain , South Africa , South Korea , Taiwan , Thailand , Turkey and the United States States .

Products

The Sachsenröder GmbH sells two products that make the company a world leader: Savutec and Gesadur .

Savutec vulcanized fiber

Savutec is a vulcanized fiber material whose hardness and toughness enable high mechanical strength and high tensile strength. The material is versatile and can be processed in a wide variety of ways. It is particularly suitable as a carrier material for abrasives.

The thicknesses of the material range from 0.07 mm to 1.0 mm. The product is pH- neutral and burns almost residue-free. In addition, it has good hygroscopic properties and can therefore also be used under water. Its structure is horn-like and sharp-edged. It has good dielectric properties and is therefore electrically insulating.

The production takes place in two stages: the preliminary stage and the parchment . In the preliminary stage, 3–5 mm long linters fibers of the cotton are processed. The linters are mechanically cleaned, boiled and bleached; the actual paper structure is created in the paper machine. The cellulose is dissolved in water and then dehydrated so that dry raw paper webs are created. In the parchment, these strips are drawn through sulfuric acid and washed out. The acid re-binds the cotton fibers.

Gesadur

Ges-Dur is referred to by the company as "natural plastic". The material contains 60 percent natural fibers. Due to its three-dimensional networked structure, it can absorb all kinds of forces. The homogeneous and compact material has meanwhile proven itself worldwide.

The color of the material is yellow, with UV light it darkens without any loss of quality. Due to its shape and climate stability, it offers high thermal resistance and good thermal insulation. It is also water, oil and dirt repellent. Further qualities are the low specific weight of 1.4 g / cm³ and a high compressive strength of 350 N / mm². When stored, the material is also matt and tropical-proof.

Innovation laboratory

The Bergisches Land innovation laboratory was founded in 2009 by company manager Dirk Sachsenröder together with the Bergische Universität Wuppertal . It is intended to act as a link between companies in the region and the university and offers a platform for experiments and collaboration. The advantage for companies, too, is the creation of new products, the extension of the value chain and the opening and expansion of business areas. The idea behind this is that commercial companies can get professional support with selected issues, for example through theses and term papers in cooperation with students, while the university and its students have practical advanced training and research.
