Saferndri, the dancer from Dschiapur is a 1918 German silent film drama by and with Fern Andra in the title role.

action

India, in the past. The snake dancer Saferndri, daughter of a fortune teller, fell in love with Anguli, a compatriot from a lower caste. One day she is kidnapped by the powerful Maharajah of Jiapur, who wants her all to himself. Anguli tries to free the young woman, but is caught and imprisoned. Saferndri, on the other hand, can escape her own captivity. With the help of an impresario who wants to train her at home and then have her appear in a performance, she can escape to Europe. One day, Anguli, who was released by the maharajah, follows her to the circus where she performs her arts. Saferndri has long since established itself as a big star there. But the Maharajah has also clung to her heels and kidnaps her again, this time to a villa. This time, however, Anguli really comes to her aid and can render the villainous sovereign prince harmless.

Production notes

Saferndri, the dancer from Dschiapur , was created in the last year of the World War, 1918, in the Fern-Andra studio in Berlin at Chausseestrasse 42. The length of the six-act film was 1,557 meters. Presumably the film premiered at the end of 1918 during the censorship-free period. After the war, the film was submitted to the resurrected film censorship on December 2, 1920 and (again) performed in the Tauentzienpalast that same month .

criticism

“Fern Andra is cradled in all subjects, but as a circus artist she is unique. The fact that an entire circus with all acrobatic and dressage acts was drawn up for the sake of their numbers is of course an advantage for the film. In addition to this performance of the leading actress, only Ernst Rückert was able to assert himself successfully. Direction and photography are of impeccable quality. "
