The Sager Meer is a lake in the Oldenburg district in Lower Saxony , which consists of two parts. It is located in the village of Bissel in the municipality of Großenkneten .
Two lakes are meant by the Sager Sea: the Great Sager Sea and the Little Sager Sea ( 52 ° 58 ′ 8.2 ″ N , 8 ° 7 ′ 55.9 ″ E ).
The Großer Sager Meer is around 16 hectares in size. With a water depth of 25 m plus a layer of digested sludge of 8 m, it is the deepest lake in Lower Saxony . The Little Sager Sea is about 3 hectares in size. An underground salt dome runs under the waters . Therefore, like the much larger Zwischenahner Meer , the Sager Meer is probably a sinkhole lake .
The Sager Sea and the surrounding boggy areas are located in the nature reserve Sager Meere, Kleiner Sand and Heumoor . The nature reserve forms part of the Fauna-Flora-Habitat- Area 012 ("Sager Meer, Ahlhorner Fischteiche , Lethetal ") of the European Union .
