Saint Clair Cemin

Saint Clair Cemin (born September 24, 1951 in Cruz Alta in the state of Rio Grande do Sul ) is a Brazilian sculptor who lives and works in New York City .

Cemin grew up in Brazil and studied from 1975 to 1978 at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris . After graduation, he moved to New York City and became part of the East Village arts scene . Jeff Koons and Peter Halley are friends .

Saint Clair Cemin uses a wide range of materials and processing techniques for his artistic work. Stone, metal, wood, bronze, marble and terracotta are some of the materials he uses.

In 1992 Cemin rented a house on the Nile in Egypt, where he made sculptures with the help of a blacksmith . In 1994 he hired carvers in Bali who made works from teak and mahogany . In 1999, Cemin had artisans in Beijing make stainless steel works.

Cemin received several awards for his work and had numerous exhibitions in various countries, including taking part in documenta IX in Kassel.
