Saint Michael's College (Vermont)

The Saint Michael's College is a private, Catholic university in Colchester in the state of Vermont in the United States of America . It is operated by an ecclesiastical order, the Society of Saint Edmund .

The college was established in 1904 in some of the military barracks on today's campus. The first students were 34 boys and teenagers between the ages of 10 and 22. The classes remained small until the 1950s; With a training program for immigrants who wanted to learn English as a second language, a new branch of study, the School of International Studies , was established in 1954 , which became the main branch of the school in 1956 with the admission of Hungarian refugees and has remained so to this day.

While the first colored man graduated from school in 1911, the student body remained male until 1970; only then were female students accepted (the current share of the student body is 42%). The first full-time female teacher, on the other hand, was accepted as early as 1942.

Sports

The university's sports teams call themselves the Purple Knights . In 1958, the college's basketball team finished 2nd in the NCCA league. The college's ice hockey team became the last champions in the NCAA 2nd ice hockey league in 1999 . Then the league was dissolved.
