Sainte-Marguerite (Ollômont)
Sainte-Marguerite is a Roman Catholic chapel in Ollômont, a district of Houffalize in the Belgian province of Luxembourg . It represents the remaining remains of a Romanesque choir tower church .
history
In the 12th century, Sainte-Marguerite was built as a Romanesque parish church. It belonged to the Saint-Hubert Abbey . In addition to Ollômont, the parish also included the villages of Nadrin and Filly . Although the Romanesque church was a modest hall building, it had an extraordinary choir section with a three apses complex with a choir tower. This east end has been preserved as today's cemetery chapel .
From 1739 to 1746 the Romanesque nave was replaced by a larger hall building. This in turn was extended to the west in 1872/73. In 1907 the church was in such a dilapidated condition that it was decided to put it down except for the choir. The parish was moved to Nadrin and a new church was built there using material from the old nave. The choir tower of Sainte-Marguerite was shortened. In 1961 the chapel was renovated
