Sair Asgur
Sair Asgur ( Belarusian Заір Азгур ; born January 2, 1908 in Mautschany in the Mogilev Governorate , Russian Empire ; † February 18, 1995 in Minsk , Belarus ) was a Soviet sculptor.
Life
Asgur attended art colleges in Vitebsk , the Vchutein in Leningrad and the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kiev . During his time as a student he lived at times with the national poets Janka Kupala and Jakub Kolas . He also received financial support from Kolas. He became a professor and an academic. From 1947 to 1967 and from 1971 to 1990 Asgur was a member of the Supreme Soviet of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic . He received various honorary degrees and awards. From 1980, Asgur was chairman of the art department of the National Academy of Sciences in Minsk. Between 1977 and 1983 he wrote two volumes that contain his memoirs. Asgur also wrote several art articles.
A memorial museum for the artist is located in Asgurstrasse 8 in Minsk.

Asgur's works are mostly realistic busts and monumental sculptures of historical, cultural and revolutionary personalities.
