Wassil Talasch

Wassil Issakawitsch Talasch ( Belarusian Васіль Ісакавіч Талаш ; * December 25, 1844 July / January 6,  1845 greg. In Nawasjolki in Petrykau district , Belarus (until 1991: USSR); † August 23, 1946 ibid) was a Soviet partisan .

Life

Talasch worked as a farmer. During the Russian Civil War , he led partisan units in a region mainly inhabited by Poles who were fighting the White Army . In the Polish-Soviet War he commanded a unit of 300 people who fought successfully against the Polish army. Thereafter, Talasch worked as chairman of the Soviet in the village of Nawasjolki. In view of the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, Talasch took part in the partisan fight again despite his old age and was affectionately known as Grandpa Talasch by his fellow combatants . Talasch fought in a partisan unit in the wooded region of Petrykaus against the German occupation. He also worked as a scout for the Red Army . He is buried in the Petrykau cemetery.

In 1945 Talasch received a diploma from the Minister of Forestry of the USSR German Motowilow as well as a commemorative sign for his work in the forestry of the USSR. The Belarusian national poet Jakub Kolas made Grandpa Talasch the protagonist of his work Dryhwa , published in 1934 . In 1958, a monument to Wassil Talasch created by Sair Asgur was erected in the Petrykau city ​​park . In 1989 a museum was opened in Nawasjolki in his honor. On Jakub Kolas Square in Minsk , to the right of Kolas' statue, there is also a monument to Talash together with his grandson Panas.
