Saitek is a Hong Kong- based electronics company founded in 1979 by Eric Winkler of Switzerland . Saitek was founded for the development and production of electronic devices, the occasion was the development of a chess computer. There are branches in the United States, in Europe in France, Great Britain and Germany, in Hong Kong and directly in China, the German branch is in Munich .

In 1987 Saitek developed the Pocket Plus chess computer in collaboration with Garry Kasparov .

Today Saitek consists of two independent business areas, one of Saitek EMS, which develops and manufactures electronic devices, and the other of the sales company for the products manufactured under the Saitek brand.

Saitek

Saitek has been selling accessories for computer games, such as gamepads , mice , keyboards , joysticks , force feedback steering wheels, pedals for flight simulators , web cams and headsets since 1993 . PC speakers have also been part of the sales program since 2005 . Various of these peripheral devices are also available in a wireless version or a version particularly suitable for mobile use.

Chess computers under the brand name Mephisto have been part of the program in various sizes, equipment and skill levels since Saitek took over the German chess computer manufacturer Hegener + Glaser in 1994 .

The latest line of Saitek input devices is called Cyborg . As a special feature, it has various customization options. For example, the length of the mouse can be adapted to the user's preferences.

Saitek was taken over by the US company Mad Catz in 2007 .

In September 2016, Logitech acquired the brand for $ 13 million.

Saitek EMS

An EMS company emerged from Saitek , which until 2007 also operated under the name Saitek . Since the sale of the trademark rights to Mad Catz, the company has been called Ryder Industries .

The spectrum ranges from contract manufacturing of printed circuit boards to development, optimization, production, testing and sales logistics for electronic devices. 70 development engineers are employed for this purpose. Software and firmware development are also possible as part of the project implementation.

In 1980 branches were established in the United States and Great Britain , and in 1985 the first factory in Hong Kong was ready for production. In 1990 planning began for an additional production facility in Shenzhen , a special economic zone in the Guangdong province in China bordering Hong Kong , which was founded in 1991. The second factory in Shenzhen began operations in 2002, and a total of 23,000 m² of production space is now available.

Saitek's production facility in Shenzen has been ISO 9002 certified by TÜV Rheinland since 1996 ; in 2003 and 2004, certification according to ISO 9001 , QS 9000 and ISO 14000 took place, and production in accordance with the RoHS directive is possible.
