The Salangidae are a family of small fish from the order of the smelt-like (Osmeriformes). They live in Southeast Asia, mainly in fresh waters; some coastal species migrate up the rivers to spawn.

features

Salangids become 6 to 17 cm long. They are elongated and flaky. Their head is strongly flattened, the body transparent or translucent . You may be neoten ; the skeleton is only slightly ossified. In adult males there is a row of scales above the base of the anal fin. The pelvic fins are supported by 6 to 8 fin rays. The number of Branchiostegal rays is 3 to 4, those of the vertebrae 48 to 79. Their maxillary is covered with numerous teeth.
