Salih asch-Sharif at-Tunisi
Sheikh Salih asch-Sharif at-Tunisi ( Arabic صالح الشريف التونسي, DMG Ṣāliḥ aš-Šarīf at-Tūnisī ; born 1869 ; died 1920 ), in a French spelling Cheikh Saleh Al Chérif ("Al Tounissi") , was a Tunisian Islamic scholar and nationalist. During the First World War he was in the service of German propaganda .
Live and act
Salih asch-Sharif at-Tunisi was born in 1866. He taught from 1889 at the University of Ez-Zitouna (al-Ǧāmiʿa az-Zaitūnīya) in Tunis . During the First World War he was an employee of the intelligence agency for the Orient of the German Empire. In the German-speaking world he is probably best known as the author of the propaganda pamphlet "The Truth About the War of Faith". In this text Ḥaqīqat aldschihād / The Truth about the War of Faith (īaqīqat al-ǧihād) published by the German Society for Islamkunde in Berlin , the Tunisian scholar Sheikh explained the novelty of an Islamist jihad .
Other places where he worked were Istanbul and Damascus .
