Salipyrin [C 11 H 13 N 2 O] + [C 7 H 5 O 3 ] - is a salt of the salicylic acid with a phenazonium - cation ( antipyrine ). Salipyrin is a colorless and odorless crystalline powder with a not unpleasant, tart, sour taste. The substance is only slightly soluble (0.4 g / l) in water, slightly soluble in ethanol and benzene . Salipyrine melts at 91.5 ° C. It has a strong antiseptic effect , like a mixture of antipyrine and salicylic acid in febrile illnesses, acute and chronic rheumatoid arthritis . Caution should be exercised in its use as it may in certain cases produce undesirable symptoms.
