List of rose varieties |
The Sally Holmes rose variety is a musky rose that was bred by the rose breeder Robert A. Holmes and introduced in 1976 by the English rose company Fryer. This cross was created from the white floribunda rose ' Ivory Fashion ' (Boerner 1958) and the pink musk rose ' Ballerina ' (Bentall 1937). The variety name 'Sally Holmes' is dedicated to the breeder's wife.
'Sally Holmes' reaches heights of about 1.8 meters. The healthy leaves are glossy dark green. 'Sally Holmes' is a pale pink to later white floribunda-like shrub rose that blooms in batches all summer. It blooms in full clusters. The unfilled flowers show their yellow anthers and have a very light scent. The variety has a good long-range effect and is durable as a container plant . It is shade-tolerant, disease-resistant and its winter hardiness corresponds to USDA zone 5–9 .
The rose variety has received several awards and received gold medals at the rose competitions in Monza (1979), Baden-Baden (1980) and Portland (1993). In 2012 it was named the World Rose as the first single-flowered rose variety .
