The rose variety Greetings to Teplitz ( synonyms : 'Gruss an Teplitz', 'Virgina R. Coxe', 'Salut Teplitz') was bred by the Austro-Hungarian rose breeder Rudolf Geschwind in 1897. This China rose originated from (' Sir Joseph Paxton ' × ' Fellenberg ') × (' Papa Gontier ' × ' Gloire des Rosomanes ') and became the parent of many modern flower beds . The variety name 'Greetings to Teplitz' refers to the Bohemian spa town of Teplitz , which is the breeder's birthplace.
'Greetings to Teplitz' can be cultivated as a container plant or tied up on a trellis . It is frost hardy with a hardiness of USDA zone 6-10 , but must be protected from the winter sun. 'Greetings to Teplitz' is best placed in partial shade, because too much sunlight will burn the flowers quickly. It is a little sensitive to soot .
'Greetings to Teplitz' reaches heights of up to 1.80 meters. The branches are only light, but have large spines. The red-green leaves are serrated. 'Greetings to Teplitz' is a permanent bourbon hybrid or tea hybrid with very good autumn flowers and a strong, spicy scent. The half- double flowers are velvety dark red. Sometimes she will plant a few rose hips in the fall if the flowers have not been removed.
In 2000 it was named the World Rose among the historical roses .
