Salomon Herxheimer (born September 2, 1841 in Dotzheim ; † August 12, 1899 ) came from a large family that produced several doctors.

Life

He spent part of his training with Ferdinand von Hebra in Vienna , the founder of dermatology there .

He married Fanny Livingston , the eldest daughter of the American emigrant Markus Löwenstein , who settled as Marx Livingston in Frankfurt am Main at Bockenheimer Landstrasse 33 after his return to Germany . The associated Livingston horse stable still stands at Ulmenstrasse 20 today .

In 1874 Salomon Herxheimer settled in Frankfurt am Main as a dermatologist and in 1876 founded a clinic for skin and venereal diseases. He died on August 12, 1899 in a mountain accident. In his memory, his wife Fanny founded the “Sanitätsrat Dr. Salomon Herxheimersche Stiftung "with a foundation capital of 100,000 RM for the free treatment of needy skin diseases. Her mother Frances (Franziska) Livingston also gave this foundation 20,000 RM in her will. His brother Karl Herxheimer , later also a well-known dermatologist, took over the management of the clinic and later managed to integrate it into the university clinic he co-founded.

His son, Gotthold Herxheimer (1872–1936), became a well-known pathologist and was director of the pathological-anatomical institute at the municipal hospital in Wiesbaden for 30 years before he was forced to emigrate in 1934.

From 1861 he was a member of the Corps Rhenania Würzburg.
