Solomon III.

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Solomon III. or Solomon III. was from May 20, 1796 to July 15, 1797 and again for a short time from May 20, 1799 Negus Negest ( Emperor ) of Ethiopia and a member of the Solomon dynasty . He was the son of Tekle Haymanot II.

Above all, Salomon was a figurehead and came to the imperial throne in 1796 thanks to Ras Wolde Selassie from Tigray and Ras Mare'ed . In the following years he struggled with his rival, the former Emperor Tekle Giyorgis I , for rule. This fact took advantage of insurgent captain Asserat to Gonder to surround. However, he lacked the military strength to penetrate the capital, and so he limited himself to burning the property of Tekle Giyorgi in Gonder. Solomon was forced to flee Gonder and found shelter in Aksum where he lived protected by Ras Wolde Selassie. He came back to the throne for a short time in 1799.

Budge argues that some experts consider him and Ba'eda Mariam II to be the same person.
