The salon of Rahel Varnhagen - themselves, their social evenings called not with this term - was of her in two stages, about 1790- 1806 as a salon of Rahel Levin , conducted after their marriage 1820-1833 in Berlin. People of different faiths and worldviews, different classes, as well as poets, naturalists, politicians, social giants and aristocrats came together on one level. The ideal of conviviality thus promoted emancipation. Famous Rahel guests were (in the early days) Jean Paul , Ludwig Tieck , Friedrich Schlegel , Wilhelm and Alexander von Humboldt , Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué , Prince Louis Ferdinand and his lover Pauline Wiesel , later Heinrich Heine , Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau , Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel , Eduard Gans and Bettina von Arnim .
