Salqin , Arabic سلقين, DMG Salqīn ; is a small town in Idlib Governorate in northwest Syria .

The place is located on the east side of the Orontes Valley on the rise of the north-south running range of hills of the Jebel Dueili (Duwayli), which forms the western edge of the northern Syrian limestone massif . From Jisr asch-Shugur a side road runs over Darkush almost 50 kilometers in the valley floor north to Salqin. The area is mostly inhabited by Kurds . The road continues northwards into one of the most remote areas of the cultural region of Kurd Dagh : It is about 6 kilometers to the much smaller town of Harim , from where the road winds up to the Jebel il-Ala and after about 20 kilometers from Salqin the Druze town Qalb Loze reached at the karstified height of over 700 meters.

Salqin is about 380 meters above sea level and still benefits from the good transport links to the market town of Jisr asch-Shugur and from the agriculture that is possible in the fertile valley floor. Pomegranates , figs and olives thrive here .

For 2009, 36,938 inhabitants were calculated. Salqin has a busy old town with busy, winding streets around the old Friday Mosque and a covered souq . At the edges, especially to the north, the place is growing rapidly through multi-storey, quickly built apartment blocks.

Salqin has been controlled by the Al-Nusra Front and the Ahrar al-Sham since mid-2014 .
