Hans Potyka

Hans Potyka (born July 25, 1913 in Emmagrube , Rybnick district ; † September 8, 1968 ) was a German doctor and politician ( SPD ).

Hans Potyka attended a private school. After graduating from high school, he was drafted first for labor service, then for military service. He completed his medical studies with the state examination. He was then called up for military service and was taken prisoner during the Second World War. After his release he worked as a doctor, and in 1952 he was recognized as a specialist in childhood diseases. He was given the opportunity to study in the United States with a World Health Agency scholarship. In 1955 he attended the Medical Academy in Düsseldorf . From 1952 to 1957 he worked in the public health service.

From 1957 to 1965 he was head of social affairs and he was a member of the Remscheid City Council . In August 1965 he was appointed city manager. In the Landtag constituency 53 he was elected directly to the Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia in the 6th electoral term for Remscheid , to which he was a member from July 24, 1966 to September 8, 1968. The mandate that was vacant after his death was carried out by Richard Winkels .

From 1953 to 1957 he was second chairman of the district association of the SPD Remscheid, since 1957 he was a member of the ÖTV union. He was a member of the Training Committee on the Federal Board of Workers' Welfare .

The street on the building complex in the Hackenberg district of Lennep , which was operated by the hospitals of the city of Remscheid from 1971 and is now used by the Stockder Foundation, was named after him in his honor.
