Salvatore Gaffiero

Salvatore Gaffiero CO (born March 8, 1828 in Senglea , Malta ; † December 8, 1906 ) was a Maltese Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Malta .

Life

His parents were Salvatore Gaffiero and his wife Concetta Cachia. At the age of twelve he was canon of the chapter of the collegiate church of Senglea in 1840 . The ordination received Salvatore Gaffiero on 20 December 1851. Later, he entered the Oratory of St. Philip Neri in Senglea and was there twice (1855-1858 and 1862-1865) to the provost selected. Then he was pastor in Għargħur and from 1868 in 1868 in Floriana . In 1875 he became a canon of the cathedral chapter , and he was also awarded the honorary title of House Prelate of His Holiness .

Pope Leo XIII. appointed the already 70-year-old Salvatore Gaffiero on November 28, 1898 titular bishop of Selymbria and auxiliary bishop in Malta. He was ordained episcopate on January 15, 1899, by the Bishop of Malta, Archbishop Pietro Pace ; Co- consecrators were Giovanni Maria Camilleri OESA , Bishop of Gozo , and Spiridion Poloméni , Auxiliary Bishop in Tunis .
