Life

Garau studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence until 1973 . Then he was the drummer of the Milanese rock band Stormy Six. In 1983 he ended his musical career and only worked as a painter. From the following year he exhibited his works regularly, initially mainly in Milan. Around 1986 he switched from symbolic figure images to landscapes and water bodies in mixed media . From the beginning of the 1990s, elements of neo-romanticism can be found in his landscapes and seascapes, which are sometimes overlaid with geometric shapes. Garau mainly lives in his hometown of Santa Giusta and in Milan, but also spent a long time in Spain and Capri ( Artist in Residence 2001).

In 2003 he presented his work at the Biennale di Venezia . In 2011 he presented his work at the 54th Venice Biennale .
