Salvatore Tatarella

Salvatore Tatarella (born October 11, 1947 in Cerignola , † January 28, 2017 in Bari ) was an Italian politician . He belonged first to the Movimento Sociale Italiano , then from 1995 to the successor party Alleanza Nazionale , then to the Popolo della Libertà and since 2011 the party Futuro e Libertà per l'Italia .

After graduating from the University of Bari with a law degree, Tatarella practiced law for many years. Politically, he was initially active as a member of the Provincial Council of Foggia and the Regional Council of Apulia . From 1993 to 1999 he was mayor of his home town Cerignola, later he became deputy mayor of Bari . From 1994 to 1999 he was a member of the European Parliament for the first time , after which he moved to the Italian Parliament , to which he was a member until 2001. He was then a member of the Committee of the Regions before returning to the European Parliament in 2004. From 2008 to 2009 he was deputy chairman of the delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Europe . After the re-establishment in 2009, Tatarella moved into the party executive committee of the Popolo della Libertà, which he left in 2011. From April 25, 2012 until the end of the electoral term in July 2014, he was Deputy Chairman of the Delegation for Relations with Israel in the European Parliament .

He died on January 28, 2017 in Bari.
