The former nature reserve is located west of Wustrow (Wendland) and a few hundred meters southeast of Schreyahn within the Elbhöhen-Wendland nature park and placed the inland salt station of the former “Rudolph” potash mine under protection. The potash shaft was in operation from 1916 to 1926. The former nature reserve consists mainly of the fallow land of the former potash shaft with its overburden remains. It represents the largest and most important point of the salt Wendland and of salt-affected wet and wetlands areas, as well as sandy dry grasslands dominated and veldt and forest areas. Within the former protected area there is a still water with reed beds and vineyards .

In the area you can find salt plants , salt-loving and salt-tolerant plant species and animals tied to salty locations and preferring or tolerating them.
