Salt hook

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Salt hooks or pan hooks are a common figure in heraldry . They are an indispensable tool for salt boilers when extracting salt. Municipalities that have been strongly influenced by salt mining or processing have included the devices in their coats of arms to show the artisan tradition. The salt pan or just the salt pan , salt hooks also pan hooks and sometimes the graduation tower or just the salt vat were important . The salt slice is also part of it. This has entered the coat of arms of the von Mellin and von Seltzer families . The representation in the coat of arms is not always clear without a description . Often attempts have been made to create a speaking coat of arms, as in the case of Salzgitter . Many aristocratic families, such as the Brandis family, who were heirs to Werle, have the equipment in their coat of arms because they had the privilege of extracting salt.
