Sam Abell

Sam Abell (born February 19, 1945 in Sylvania , Ohio ) is an American photographer and now lives in Virginia .

Sam Abell learned his trade from his father, who was also a photographer, and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1969 with a bachelor's degree . He has worked for the magazine “ National Geographic Society ” since 1970 and has so far designed over 20 reports on various topics such as different cultures and landscapes.

In 1990 Abell's book “Stay this moment” was published by Eastman- Kodak with Thomas Grant . In the last few years Sam Abell has published another 5 books on subjects such as Civil War , Gardens , the West of the USA, Ireland and the West Coast of Australia .

Abell often uses the long shot with a wide-angle lens . His pictures show people in their environment and how they deal with it. One area of ​​interest is the socially critical view, especially with impressive portraits. An outstanding piece of work is a report on the island group "New Hybrids", created in 1973 .
