Sam Webb (born July 16, 1945 in Maine ) is an American politician and was chairman of the Communist Party of the USA from 2000 to 2014 .

Life

1967 graduated Sam Webb at the St. Francis Xavier University in the Canadian town of Antigonish . He holds a master's degree in economics from the University of Connecticut . From 1978 to 1988 he worked for the CPUSA in Michigan . Today he lives in New York City .

Political career

In 2000, Webb took over the office of chairman of the CPUSA from Gus Hall , after he had led the party for over four decades in that office which he had created to replace the general secretary common in communist parties . His deputy was Jarvis Tyner . He traveled to countries whose form of government is real socialism , such as North Korea and Cuba . In 2014 he was replaced as chairman. John Bachtell is his successor .
