Samanyolu TV , abbreviated to STV , was a Turkish television station based in Istanbul , which was founded on January 13, 1993 on the initiative of Fethullah Gülen , and belongs to the Turkish joint stock company Samanyolu Yayın Grubu . In October 2015, broadcasting was temporarily banned (for Türksat and cable operators), and in 2016 it was finally stopped as part of the attempted coup in Turkey in 2016 .

About 90% of the programs were self-produced (series and TV films, magazines and news, music and entertainment, documentaries, comedy & children's programs). According to AGB Nielsen Media Research, the station recorded an increase in audience ratings of 26.7% in prime time between April 2004 and April 2005 . A further increase of 24.5% was recorded between August 2005 and August 2006. These percentage increases are unique in Turkish TV history. However, the ratings determined are considered to be manipulable. In 2010, Samanyolu TV had a viewership share of 5.8% (IP Network / TV KeyFacts 2010) and 4.4% (AGB Nielsen, Television Audience Measurement Report, Istanbul, 2010), according to various data. STV cooperates with ZDF and the Cihan news agency .

STV AVRUPA ( German STV EUROPA ) has been broadcasting from its television studios in Germany since November 2001. The television broadcaster has two studios in the World Media Group AG building in Offenbach am Main . The station's studios can accommodate over 400 guests. The studio area will be expanded to 1,200 m² this year. Entertainment programs, magazines and series from Samanyolu TV will also be broadcast on Mehtap TV , Samanyolu Haber , Yumurcak TV , Hazar TV , Ebru TV in the USA, Ebru TV Africa and until the end of broadcasting on QLAR in Germany (previously Ebru TV Europe ).

In November 2009 it was announced that STV AVRUPA would from now on rely on a new distribution strategy in the German cable networks due to the steadily growing success in recent years. The full program, which is aimed at the Turkish population in Germany and Europe, is leaving the free-TV digital packages and switching to pay-TV platforms.
