Samuel Anderson (politician)

Samuel Anderson (* 1773 in Middletown , Province of Pennsylvania , †  January 17, 1850 in Chester , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1827 and 1829 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Samuel Anderson attended public schools in his home country. After a subsequent medical degree and his approval as a doctor in 1796, he began to work in this profession. Between 1799 and 1801 he was a member of the US Navy as a medic . He then practiced in Chester. During the British-American War he set up a volunteer unit that came to be known as the Mifflin Guards . In 1814 he was promoted to captain. He later became a member of the Pennsylvania State Militia, which made it to lieutenant colonel in 1821. Between 1815 and 1818 and again from 1823 to 1825 Anderson was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania . Between 1819 and 1823 he was a sheriff in Delaware County . In 1823 he wanted to rejoin the US Navy, but for health reasons he soon had to give up this intention. In the 1820s he joined the movement against future US President Andrew Jackson and became a member of the short-lived National Republican Party .

In the congressional election of 1826 Anderson was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fourth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Samuel Edwards on March 4, 1827 . Until March 3, 1829 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . This was shaped by the discussions between supporters and opponents of Andrew Jackson. From 1829 to 1835 Anderson was again a member of the State Parliament of Pennsylvania. In 1833 he was its president. From 1841 he was employed by the customs authorities as Inspector of customs . In 1846 he was elected justice of the peace in his homeland. He died in Chester on January 17, 1850.
