Samuel Benjamin Klose

Samuel Benjamin Klose (born April 27, 1730 in Breslau ; † September 18, 1798 ibid) was a German historian , author and teacher.

Career

Klose was born the son of furrier Johann Kaspar Klose and his wife Anna Magdalena , née Hertelin . Because of his remarkable talent, he was enrolled in the Maria Magdalenen Gymnasium . There he discovered his interest in classical literature. From 1752 he studied in Frankfurt an der Oder , and from 1753 in Halle theology . He then worked as a tutor in Breslau until his first job in 1762 . There he got to know Lessing , for whom he became a guide through the sights and book treasures of Wroclaw and a popular conversationalist.

After a brief employment as a teacher at the Maria Magdalenen grammar school, he became rector of the School for the Holy Spirit , a Progymnasium in Breslau. Until the end of his life, he studied the history of Silesia intensively and, in addition to several books, left a wealth (248 volumes) of unprinted records.
