Samuel Bochart

Samuel Bochart (born May 30, 1599 in Rouen , † May 16, 1667 in Caen ) was a Reformed theologian and orientalist, geographer and naturalist.

After studying in Sedan , Saumur , London , Oxford and Leiden , he became pastor in Caen in 1625. Christine von Sweden invited him to Stockholm in 1652, where he studied Arabic manuscripts in her library. In 1659 he took part in the National Synod of Loudun as a delegate from Normandy . One of his students was Pierre Daniel Huet , who later became Bishop of Soissons and Avranches .
