Samuel Dick
Samuel Dick (born November 14, 1740 in Prince George's County , Province of Maryland , † November 16, 1812 in Salem , New Jersey ) was an American politician . In 1784 and 1785 he was a delegate for New Jersey to the Continental Congress .
Career
Samuel Dick received a classical education. After studying medicine in Scotland and being licensed as a doctor, he began working in Salem Jersey in 1770 in this profession. In the 1770s he joined the revolutionary movement. He was a member of the state militia. In 1776 he was a member of the New Jersey Provincial Congress . During the War of Independence he was temporarily in the medical service of the Continental Army . In 1777 he was elected to the New Jersey General Assembly . A year later he became the head of customs in western New Jersey.
In 1784 and 1785, Samuel Dick represented his state in the Continental Congress, and in 1787 he was a delegate to the assembly that ratified the United States Constitution for New Jersey. Between 1785 and 1804 he was a district councilor ( surrogate ) in Salem County . He died in Salem on November 16, 1812.
