Samuel Emmanuel Carter

Samuel Emmanuel Carter SJ (born July 31, 1919 in Kingston , † September 3, 2002 ) was Archbishop of Kingston in Jamaica .

Life

Samuel Emmanuel Carter joined the Jesuit Congregation and was ordained a priest on June 19, 1954 .

Paul VI appointed him on February 1, 1966 auxiliary bishop in Kingston, Jamaica and titular bishop of Cenculiana . The Archbishop of Boston , Cardinal Richard James Cushing , ordained him bishop on April 25 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were John Joseph McEleney SJ, Bishop of Kingston, and Richard Lester Guilly SJ, Bishop of Georgetown .

The Pope appointed him Archbishop of Kingston in Jamaica on September 1, 1970. On November 11, 1994, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
