The Diocese of Georgetown ( Latin Dioecesis Georgiopolitana , English Diocese of Georgetown ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Georgetown in Guyana .
Pope Gregory XVI founded the Apostolic Vicariate of British Guiana on April 12, 1837 from cession of territory to the Vicariate Apostolic Port of Spain and subordinated it to this as a suffragan on April 30, 1850 . It was raised to the diocese of Georgetown on February 29, 1956.
