Samuel Hardy (born around 1758 in Isle of Wight County , Colony of Virginia , †  October 17, 1785 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1783 and 1785 he was a delegate for Virginia in the Continental Congress .

Career

Samuel Hardy attended public schools in his home country and then studied at the College of William & Mary . After studying law and becoming a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career. In 1778 and between 1780 and 1782 he was a member of the Virginia House of Representatives . In June 1781 he became a member of the Executive Council of his state. In the meantime he was the governor's deputy . From 1783 to 1785 he represented the state of Virginia in the Continental Congress, which was then meeting in Philadelphia. He died there on October 17, 1785 at the age of only 27. Hardy was friends with Alexander Hamilton . The Hardy County in present-day West Virginia was named after him.
