Samuel Heim

Samuel Heim (born April 8, 1764 in Gais ; † February 25, 1860 there , reformed , resident in Gais) was a Swiss entrepreneur .

Life

Samuel Heim was born on April 8, 1764 in Gais as the son of the landlord and founder of the whey health resort Gais Hans Ulrich Heim and Anna Katharina born Walser. After Heim attended the Chur City School between 1778 and 1780, he worked for relatives in a butcher's shop in Geneva before completing an apprenticeship as a bookseller in Winterthur . He then worked as a clerk in bookstores in Winterthur, Zurich and Basel .

In 1791 Heim took over his father's inn Ochsen, later renamed Falken, which under his leadership rose to become the international whey center. For this purpose, his second Kurhaus Neuer Ochsen was opened in 1796 . In 1822 he finally handed over the management of his operations to his son Salomon.

In addition, the enthusiastic supporter of the ideals of the French Revolution acted as actuary of the constitutional revision commission in Appenzell Ausserrhoden , in 1799 as court president and in 1800 as governor of the Teufen district .

Samuel Heim married Anna Katharina, the daughter of Lieutenant Salomo Tobler, in 1792 . He died on February 25, 1860, five weeks before he would turn 96 in Gais.
