Samuel L. Schmucker

Samuel Lorne Schmucker (born February 20, 1879 in Reading , Pennsylvania , † September 4, 1921 in Long Island , New York ) was an American artist.

Schmucker was partially paralyzed by polio . From 1896 to 1899 he studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and at the "Howard Pyle Institute" at Drexel University from 1899 to 1900. Around 1905 he established himself professionally as an artist. He worked as a postcard artist and signed his works with "SLS". His maps were published by the Detroit Publishing Company and by John Winsch . After the end of the “golden age of the postcard” he looked for other fields of activity as an artist. He suddenly died of a heart attack at the age of 42.
