Samuel Muller (born January 18, 1785 in Krefeld , † 1875 ) was a Dutch - German theologian. Samuel Muller worked a. a. helped found the Algemene Doopsgezinde Sociëteit in 1811.

Samuel Muller was born on January 18, 1785 in Krefeld. His parents died early. In 1801 Muller went to Amsterdam to study philology and Mennonite theology . After completing his studies, he was appointed a preacher in Zutphen in 1806 . In April 1812 Muller married Femina Geertruida, a widow from Haarlem . After a few years in Zutphen and Zaandam-Oostzijde, he accepted a preaching position in Amsterdam in 1814.

In 1827 Muller was finally appointed to a professorship at the theological seminar of the Algemene Doopsgezinde Sociëteit. Muller taught dogmatics , pastoral theology and Mennonite church history here . Muller published mainly on the history of the Dutch Mennonites, but also wrote, for example, on the literary works of the writer Joost van den Vondel . From the University of Leiden in 1827 he was awarded a doctorate in philosophy and again in 1836 a doctorate in theology. In addition to his work as a professor, he worked as a preacher for the Amsterdam Mennonite congregation until 1836. Muller was an active member of the Dutch Bible Society and took an active part in the establishment of the Mennonite Mission Society ( Doopsgezinde Zending ) in 1847, of which he was also chairman for several years. In 1854 Muller completed the first Amsterdam library catalog .

In 1856, Samuel Muller retired .
