Samuel Rowe

Sir Samuel Rowe (born March 23, 1835 in Macclesfield , † August 28, 1888 in Madeira ) was a British surgeon and colonial administrator .

Rowe was governor in Sierra Leone (1875-1876, 1877-1880, 1881, 1885-1886 and 1887-1888), British Gambia (1875-1877), on the Gold Coast ( Ghana ; 1881-1884) and in the colony Lagos ( Nigeria ; 1881–1884) and Governor General of British West Africa (1877–1881).

On April 22, 1880, he was raised to the personal nobility as Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG) and has since had the suffix "Sir".
